Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center

The Aark is always seeking individuals interested in volunteering their time to learn more about the interesting world of wildlife and assist with animal care and the Center’s many activities.

Our annual volunteer orientation is generally held in early March. The volunteer season generally runs from April through October.

If you think you may be interested in

volunteering, please contact

the Aark at (215) 249-1938 in February for

the date and time of the upcoming

season’s orientation. Due to the intensive

training challenges that new volunteers

pose, new volunteers are generally not taken

at other times during the year.

During the season, each volunteer must

work at least one four-hour shift each week every  week. The demands of the 4 - 5,000 animals we treat each year (most of them between May and September) require the highest level of commitment from our volunteers. While we certainly work around our volunteer’s vacations, absolute reliability insofar as manning your shift is absolutely required! Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to assist in animal care, but please keep in mind that there are many other ways in which your volunteer efforts can support the Aark. Our maintenance needs are high: painting, weeding, cleaning, mulchi

ng are ongoing activities (and give you some exposure to daily life at the Center as well)!

The Aark and its staff devote a portion of their busy schedules to educating those individuals and groups interested in learning how to respect and care for wildlife. The Aark is accredited by many regional colleges and high schools which offer academic credit for the rigorous program offered under the guidance and direction of the Aark Staff. Annually, students, referred to as “interns” gain invaluable experience in the handling and care of wounded creatures and orphans. If you are interested in a summer internship with the Aark, please call us at (215) 249-1938; ask for Mary Jane or Leah.
