Protecting an irreplaceable treasure: Our local wildlife
The Aark is always seeking individuals interested in volunteering their time to learn more about the interesting world of wildlife and assist with animal care and the center’s many activities.
Due to the intensive training challenges new volunteers pose, new volunteers are general only taken on in March each year. During the season, each volunteer must work at least one four-hour shift each week, every week, preferably at the same time slot. In order to volunteer, you must attend the volunteer orientation.
The demands of the 5,000 to 6,000 animals we treat each year (most between the months of May and September) require the highest level of commitment from our volunteers. While we certainly work around our volunteer’s vacations, absolute reliability insofar as manning your assigned shift is absolutely required. There is a lot of work to do!
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to assist in animal care, but please keep in mind that there are many other ways in which your volunteer efforts can support the Aark. Our maintenance needs are high: painting, weeding, cleaning and mulching are just a few of the ongoing activities at the Aark and will give you some exposure to daily life at the center.
